The road I traveled to Mr. Price was a long and bumpy road. I had just met Mr. Sean
Kelley, president of the Chinese Karate Federation, at a seminar. I saw Mr. Price there
demonstrating "Long Form 4" and I knew right away I wanted to study with him. A few short
months later I met him at a karate seminar in Baltimore. When I heard him laugh and saw
how genuinely nice he is I knew I needed to find my way to Leesport.I was in need of a mentor. Mr. Price agreed to give me a private lesson so I drove one and a half hours to his school. Mr. Price’s school was everything I was looking for. We agreed to make the lessons a regular thing and as a bonus he invited me to assist him in classes to learn first hand how to be a better karate instructor, and martial artist. He is very forthcoming with his knowledge on everything about how to run a respectful school let alone the wealth of information he shares about his art. When I left my old school, I was quickly and warmly welcomed into Mr. Price’s School. I travel from a suburb just outside Philadelphia to train at least two times a week. I have learned much about the true art of Kenpo from Mr. Price. My black belt is from another branch of Kenpo so I am at the beginning again. Sometimes he’ll give me a little pearl of wisdom and I’ll ask, "Where do you find this information?" and he’ll say "That’s why you need a good instructor", which he certainly is. Respectfully, Teresa Westkaemper a.k.a. "Mrs. T"
My name is Richard Hernandez and I’ve been a student at Price’s American Kenpo Karate
Center since 2002. I originally started training in the Martial Arts when I lived in
Florida. A very close friend of mine, a 5th degree black belt Wing Chung instructor,
was teaching me the art. I learned a lot from him and after moving to PA I was
searching for a school that would fulfill my desires of pursuing the art.At the time, my son was 5 years old and my daughter was 8 years old and my intention was to enroll my son in a karate school and also look into some classes for myself. I visited several schools in my area, sat in on the classes, had my son participate and I was not satisfied with what they had to offer. Through word of mouth, I heard of Mr. Price’s Kenpo Karate and I decided to visit one day and I was really impressed by the teaching style and professionalism of Mr. Price and his instructors. I admired and could sense the level of respect his students had for him. My son immediately showed an interest and I enrolled him for a trial week. My daughter, was involved with piano and dance, also showed a strong interest in the arts and wanted to join in on the fun and decided to trade in her dancing shoes for a karate uniform. Something that was intended for the "boys" became an interest for my daughter as well. After a year of having watched the children’s class, I enrolled in the adult class. I have since found much more self-respect while also having learned self-defense techniques and gaining a family of Kenpo friends. For the past two years, the art has taught me how to meditate, focus, and be in total control of my actions. Words cannot express the knowledge I have encountered and I look forward to the many more experiences through my journey of Kenpo. |
