Mr. Paul Sebock -- 3rd Degree Black Belt

Mr. Sebock began his martial arts training in 1983 at the age of 17. He studied Tae Kwon Do for 4 years before turning his efforts to bodybuilding. From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Sebock was an Amateur bodybuilder and power lifter. In May of 1996 he returned to the martial arts and began his studies in American Kenpo under the tutelage of Mr. Brian Price. As Mr. Price's school began to grow, Mr. Sebock started to help out with the students in the younger classes when he was only at an orange belt level, the second belt achieved in Kenpo. Although at the time his duty was mainly to help keep order in the class, it gives you an idea of how long Mr. Sebock and Mr. Price have been working together in one way or another. Today Mr. Sebock continues to train under Mr. Price and the Parker-Planas lineage while he assists Mr. Price with his other students. A competent and knowledgeable martial artist, Mr. Sebock is well respected by Mr. Price's students and assists with the instruction of all different ages and levels of training. Mr. Sebock combines the right amount of fun with serious instruction to keep the younger students at their peak attention and learning potential. Mr. Sebock is an instructor in all 4 of our Kenpo classes: Panthers, Tigers, Dragons, and Adults.

A message from Mr. Sebock about his teacher:
"I have been lucky enough to meet and take classes from some of the best Kenpo practitioners and feel Mr. Price ranks right up there. I also feel by him studying under Mr. "Huk" Planas and Mr. Sean Kelley and sharing that knowledge with his students, I am getting a first rate education in Kenpo the way it was meant to be." -- Paul Sebock

Mrs. Teresa Westkaemper (Mrs. T) -- 1st Degree Black Belt

Teresa Westkaemper Teresa Westkaemper (a.k.a. Mrs. T.) started her Kenpo journey in her late thirties and has been training since 2001.

There were two very special instructors who promoted her to black belt:

As Teresa came up in rank she began to assist in the childrens and adult classes at the school she trained at. She became the person who was relied upon to open the school or teach a class on a moments notice. Unfortunately the school closed its doors only a few short weeks after her black belt promotion.

Teresa was approached by an adult student from the former school about opening a new school in its place. She operated that school, developed programs and taught children and adults for two years. During this time she was searching for a new instructor and was in the process of learning as much about Mr. Ed Parker's style of Kenpo. In May of 2006 Teresa met Mr. Sean Kelley. It was through Mr. Kelley's organization "The Chinese Karate Federation" that enabled her to meet other school owners and instructors including Mr. Brian Price. She began taking private lessons with Mr. Price and was invited to assist in the kids classes on the days she trained. The other days she continued to teach at her school.

Because owning a school and running it full time while raising her three daughters was taking its toll on her family, Teresa decided to leave her school and train regularly at Mr. Price's school. She travels over an hour to get here but in her words she "has found an outstanding instructor, gifted colleagues, and great kids to teach" and has been able to restore balance to her life.

Mrs. T. is making a fresh start in other ways as well. Her training is in Kenpo, but it is a slightly different branch of Kenpo. The two systems overlap in some aspects but Teresa is returning to basics and reviewing and learning Ed Parkers system from the beginning. Through Mr. Price she is on a good path to travel this new leg of her Kenpo journey and a welcomed member of our staff.

A message from Mrs T.:
"The road I traveled to Mr. Price was a long and bumpy road. I had just met Mr. Sean Kelley, president of the Chinese Karate Federation, at a seminar. I saw Mr. Price there demonstrating "Long Form 4" and I knew right away I wanted to study with him. A few short months later I met him at a karate seminar in Baltimore. When I heard him laugh and saw how genuinely nice he is I knew I needed to find my way to Leesport.

I was in need of a mentor. Mr. Price agreed to give me a private lesson so I drove one and a half hours to his school. Mr. Price's school was everything I was looking for. We agreed to make the lessons a regular thing and as a bonus he invited me to assist him in classes to learn first hand how to be a better karate instructor, and martial artist. He is very forthcoming with his knowledge on everything about how to run a respectful school let alone the wealth of information he shares about his art.

When I left my old school, I was quickly and warmly welcomed into Mr. Price's School. I travel from a suburb just outside Philadelphia to train at least two times a week. I have learned much about the true art of Kenpo from Mr. Price. My black belt is from another branch of Kenpo so I am at the beginning again. Sometimes he'll give me a little pearl of wisdom and I'll ask, "Where do you find this information?" and he'll say "That's why you need a good instructor", which he certainly is."-- Mrs. T

Mr. Kevin Fizz -- 1st Degree Black Belt
EMAIL Mr. Fizz -- kfizz@priceskenpo.com

Kevin Fizz Mr. Fizz was born and raised in the Pennsylvania area but began his Karate training in 1996 while living at the Jersey shore. He studied Chinese Kosho-Ryu Kenpo following the Mitose lineage along with cross training in some Judo and Shoot Fighting style of martial arts at the Ocean County Martial Arts Studio studying under Sensei Larry Trainor. Mr. Fizz studied for several years before a change in job location forced him to leave the school and return him to his hometown of Reading, Pennyslyvania. He began training with Mr. Price in January of 2000 and although our system is also a "Kenpo" system, the American Kenpo taught at our facility is much different and required Mr. Fizz to "return to the basics" and begin his training all over again. As Mr. Fizz continues his training under Mr. Price, he helps out regularly with our Panthers, Tigers, and Dragons classes. Mr. Fizz is also responsible for our web site.

A message from Mr. Fizz:
"Having had the opportunity to study both a Chinese and American form of Kenpo has given me a great respect for the modernization, flexibility and intelligence that Mr. Parker has developed into his system. Add that to the excellent instruction provided by Mr. Price and you have win-win situation for anybody looking to study martial arts. The strictness and rigidity of the "old-school" mindset is gone as Mr. Price promotes the maximum amount of learning potential through a very open class forum for his adult students and just the right combination of discipline and fun for the younger students." -- Kevin Fizz

Steve Spotts -- Preliminary Black Belt

Mr Spotts began his training in the Ed Parker American Kenpo Karate System under Mr. Price in the beginning of 2002 at the age of 42. He has advanced thru the ranks that include three levels of Brown Belt. He has been assisting with the two youth group classes. He has learned a great deal in the Ed Parker’s system of American Kenpo under Mr. Price. Over the years, he has also met and learned from some of the worlds best Kenpo Instructors that Mr. Price brings in to his school for seminars. Mr. Spotts continues to train at Price’s American Kenpo while assisting with other students.

A message from Mr. Spotts:
"I have always lead a very active lifestyle in the outdoors and sports by playing and coaching. As I became older, I found that there just were not many avenues left to be actively involved with playing sports at this age. I started in American Kenpo after watching my son in Mr. Price’s class. Then it dawned on me that hey, this looks like a fun way to stay active and fit. And, as a bonus, I’m going to be learning a valuable skill in self defense. Hopefully, I will never have a call to use it, but its real nice to know that I have the skill and confidence to not only help myself but others as well. The students that come to train and stay under Mr. Price’s teachings are some of the best people you would want to meet. You're not going to find a better group to train with better than ours." -- Steve Spotts

Apprentice Instructors

Part of an advanced student's training (usually brown belt and above) includes a requirement to assist in the training of his/her fellow students and the younger/less experienced students. As any teacher will tell you, you gain a much better insight into any field by teaching it to others. This is the basic reasoning behind having our students helping to teach. In Kenpo, teaching not only serves as a re-visit to techniques learned years before, but also forces insights into techniques to let them better understand them.

Doug Nawrocki -- 3rd Degree Brown Belt

Doug began training at Price's American Kenpo Karate Center in 2004 and has been assisting with the Elementary and Middle school classes since 2008. Prior to Kenpo school, while he was attending college, Doug enjoyed a short career as an amateur boxer. Doug likes to spar with his fellow classmates and also enjoys cross-training in Escrima and Systema.

A message from Mr. Doug:
"I have been hooked on American Kenpo since my first class. Mr Price's school is a great learning environment where the training and curriculum move along quickly. Every belt level is a new and bigger challenge and it motivates the student to train earnestly to become proficient in the system. I would like to thank all of my classmates for their unlimited enthusiasm, support, and friendship. Also, I would like to thank Mr. Price, Mr. Sebock, Mr. Fizz, and Mrs. T for 'Showing me The Path'" -- Doug Nawrocki

Rich Schaeffer -- 3rd Degree Brown Belt

Rich was born and raised in the city of Reading. Since 1996, he has been the co-owner and Vice President of Lutz Masonry Inc, Reading. Through the encouragement of his wife, Michele and son, Nathan he joined Price’s American Kenpo Karate School to fulfill a life-long dream of becoming a black belt. After years of training, Rich feels that this school has changed his life and outlook in many positive ways. Assisting the students in classes gives him extra time to spend with his son Nathan. He also enjoys guiding the other students with their new material and feels proud of their individual accomplishments. The interaction with both students and their parents has improved his communication skills and self confidence. As Rich continues his training to black belt, it is his hope to also witness his son achieving his own black belt.

A message from Mr. Rich:
"It has been an honor to train under such a highly ranked karate professional as Mr. Brian Price. This school has great instructors who keep the classes friendly and fun while teaching each student the necessary training to reach their goals. One of the best choices I have ever made was to become a member of the Price’s American Kenpo family." -- Richard John Schaeffer

Assitant Instructors

In addition to our main instructor staff and apprentices we also invite other skilled students from our adult’s class to participate as assistants with our children’s classes. Our goal is to keep the teacher to student ratio as low as possible to offer the highest level training we can to our students. It also helps our adults better understand the system by seeing it shown from the 3rd person perspective—watching our staff teach, but seeing them teach someone other than themselves and how the information is percieved.

The G.O.L.D. Team

The last group of students helpers is known as our GOLD team which stands for Guidance On Leadership Development. These hand-picked middle school class students are given the opportunity to hone their leadership skills and build a higher level of self-confidence by assisting right alongside our adult group of instructors, apprentices and assistants. They provide us with an even better teacher/student ratio as well serve as young peers to our elementary school class. Gold team members can be recognized by their special blue and black uniform.
