Developed by Senior Grandmaster Ed Parker, American Kenpo is the
most comprehensive martial arts system in the world today.
Recognized as the undisputed "Father" of American Karate, Mr. Parker
and his pioneering efforts were vital to the introduction of Karate
in America over forty years ago.
Kenpo simply put is "pure intelligence of thought and motion." Mr.
Parker added concepts, theories, principles and innovations not yet
employed by other systems. These innovations are what make his Kenpo
system unique, practical, logical, realistic, and applicable. American
Kenpo has often been referred to as the "University of Martial Arts."
The system employs linear as well as circular movements, utilizing
intermittent power when and where needed, interspersed with minor and
major moves that flow with continuity. It is flexible in thought and
action, allowing one to blend with confrontations that one may encounter.
At Price's American Kenpo Karate center we are dedicated to teaching the Parker
System of American Kenpo, following in the tradition of the Parker-Planas
lineage. Mr. "Huk" Planas is a first generation student of Mr. Parker.
Read about Mr. Price's training and dedication to the system on the
Instructor Info page.
Price's American Kenpo Karate Classes are broken into 4 basic age/skill
levels: Little Panthers, Little Tigers, Dragons, and Adults. Below you will find
information about the different classes as well as a few photos. If you would
like to see more photos of our students and instructors in action, please
check out our Image Gallery.
In some of the photos of the older children you may notice additional star patches worn
on the legs of their uniform. These stars are part of Mr. Price's Report Card and Good
Attendance Programs. In an addition to their Kenpo skills, Mr. Price places high importance
on academic achievements, as well as the personal growth of the students including manners,
respect, and responsibility. Occasionally, "Homework" is also given out that consists of a request
by the parents for some non-Kenpo related task the child must perform.
The Report Card Program -- Students have to maintain good grades to continue their
training. If they "slack off," Mr. Price will have a personal little meeting with them to try to keep
them on track. They must stay consistent throughout each quarter in order to receive a Blue Star. At
the end of the year, the student must have 4 stars to get an Academic Achiever Patch.
The Attendance Program -- Students are encouraged to come as much as possible, but they
must attend a minimum of 8 classes in a month's time to receive an attendance stripe on their belt.
For more information about our classes, please feel free to stop by our school or give us a call. It
would be best if you came about 10 to 15 minutes before the class you or your child
would be interested in or call during the breaks between classes, as our instructors
will be detained during class.
Please Note: Classes listed below in GREEN lettering indicate our
private lesson evening available to all students. Lessons are scheduled in advance on a first come first
serve basis and usually run for 30 minutes.

Our panthers class is a structured preschool program designed to teach learning
skills through the martial arts. In this program children are taught
proper manners; we also have numerous ways to work on balance and coordination
skills. We read stories, roll play, and at the end of each class we
always have some kind of structured fun & games. As an end result of our
program the children start feeling better about themselves that in turn builds
the self-esteem and self-confidence that is anyone's first weapon no matter how
old they may be.

In the tigers program the children are now taking more than one
command at a time, unlike the younger panthers. We also begin
to instill more qualities such as self-respect, and respect for others.
We teach them what self-esteem and self-confidence really are, and
how to achieve them. At this level, they also start to learn the
material essential for development in the belt levels of the Kenpo
system. We believe that they need to have fun to learn, but the classes
still stay very structured.

The dragons program is where we work on all of the important
qualities a young person needs or should have. Qualities such
as: self-confidence, self-worth, perseverance, and respect
as well as learning how to defuse a situation mentally instead
of physically. Students are now learning all of the material
essential for the Kenpo system, but still have fun activities
at the end of their classes. They receive the theory of the
system as well as the application of movements. Students don't
blink an eye or wiggle a toe without knowing why, thus they
become very educated as well. Students will understand that
martial arts are not all about hurting.
